Redline Swing with live music by the Paumanok Stompers

Happy fall, y’all! It’s the perfect time to get back together and dance. While we didn’t have our usual Redline Swing in September, it was worth it to have Sunny Side Jazz Band join us from New Orleans. Let’s keep that energy going because we have more live music coming up fast!

This month, we’re getting back into our regular rhythm with Redline Swing, continuing weekly classes with our new booking system, and looking ahead at more opportunities to bring our local swing dance community together.

Read on for what’s coming up this month and how you can join us!

A New Way to Sign Up for Classes

We’ve made a few changes to how class registration works to make things more flexible and easier to manage for everyone.

Going forward, you’ll RSVP for each class more than 48 hours in advance. This means you can choose the classes that work for your schedule and sign up as often as you’d like.

Because our classes are designed with social dancing in mind, they work best when you have enough other people there to practice with. For this reason, we have a minimum enrollment of 6 participants that must be reached at least 48 hours before each class. If the minimum is not reached by that deadline, the class will automatically be cancelled, and anyone who registered will receive an email notification and refund, or have their class credit restored, as applicable.

Once a class has reached its minimum, that class remains on the schedule and registration will stay open right up until start time as long as there is space available. This will maximize our time together and help us grow both as dancers and a community. It will also mean more personalized lesson planning, so we can focus on what’s most meaningful and useful to you. If you want to help ensure your class happens when you can make it, sign up early and tell your friends to do the same.

We’re using a new system to help organize all of this, and we’ll be refining it as needed along the way. Thank you for your patience as we get everything running smoothly!

NEW: Wednesday Classes at Redline

In addition to our Monday night classes at TDC, we now have a second weekly class location!

Beginning October 21, we’ll offer our Lindy Hop classes on Wednesdays at Redline Music Stage on weeks when there isn’t a Redline Swing band night.

Mondays | The Dance Conservatory
7:30–8:30 PM | Cortlandt Manor
Booking Deadline: 7PM Saturdays

Wednesdays | Redline Music Stage
7:00–8:00 PM | Mount Kisco
Booking Deadline: 6:30 PM Mondays

All classes are designed to give you a place to keep building your Lindy Hop skills, practice your connection and musicality, and, of course, spend more time dancing with other people in our community. There is something for everyone in our classes, and we curate lessons to meet each dancer where they are.

And now you have two nights and two locations to choose from each week!

Looking for more personalized instruction on your own schedule? I also offer private lessons for dancers who want to work, either one-on-one or with a partner, on technique, musicality, specific skills, or any of your current goals. Reach out to schedule a lesson

Redline Swing Wednesday October 7

Redline Swing is back with another night of live music and dancing! This month we welcome back our local legends Ahlfabet Swing Group. Grab your ticket early for the discount and let everyone know you’re going. Spread the word even if you’re not able to make it so these events can continue. Let’s make it another fun night!

PS: everyone is invited to join us at the nearby Bedford Diner after the dance for more community bonding

Save the Date: November 4

Mark your calendars from next month’s Redline Swing when we welcome the Paumanok Stompers for their SRDC debut! If you were at the Fire Island dance last year, you’ll remember how great they were to dance to, and now we get to have them here. Whether you’ve heard them before or not, I’m excited we get to dance to them together soon.

Dancing Together

We each have our reasons for going onto the dance floor.

For many, it's the music, the movement, the connection with a partner, and that feeling of being completely present in your own body. But it’s also the people. There’s a special kind of energy when you come together with a room full of other people for the same reason: to listen to great music, move, connect, and have a good time.

I feel incredibly lucky that we get to have that here in the Lower Hudson Valley. A dance community doesn’t exist because there are classes on a schedule or bands on a calendar. It exists because people show up.

Every time you come to a dance, take a class, bring a friend, or introduce someone to the scene, you’re helping create the experience that brings people together and keeps us coming back. And if you can’t make it yourself, simply telling someone about an upcoming dance or sharing an event can help connect another person and allow our community to continue to grow and thrive.

If you’ve ever walked away from one of our events or classes feeling energized, connected, or just really glad you came, I hope you’ll help us to keep creating more of those nights.

There’s always a place for you here. See you soon on the dance floor!

With gratitude,

Kelly
